Abstract
This research develops and comprehensively evaluates the MX Play project, a sports over-the-top (OTT) streaming platform specialized in local and university sports content for the Mexican market. The study assesses the project’s feasibility through a strategic, operational, and financial analysis supported by a scalable digital business model. Revenue projections show growth from USD 1,875,000 in 2026 to USD 7,031,250 in 2028, driven by the expansion of the subscriber base from 20,000 to 75,000 active users, as well as a hybrid monetization strategy combining subscriptions, digital advertising, and B2B2C partnerships with sports and academic institutions. The operational cost structure relies on cloud infrastructure, content delivery networks (CDN), and live streaming technologies, enabling economies of scale and improving operating margins as the user base expands. The project requires an initial investment of USD 2,500,000, financed through a 60 % bank loan and 40 % equity contribution, which allows optimization of the capital structure and the generation of tax shields associated with debt financing. Financial evaluation using the Free Cash Flow to the Firm (FCFF) method yields a Net Present Value (NPV) of USD 978,055 and an Internal Rate of Return (IRR) of 22.32 %, exceeding the Weighted Average Cost of Capital (WACC) of 13.65 %, confirming the project’s capacity to generate economic value for investors. Additionally, sensitivity analysis indicates that the business model remains financially sustainable under moderate variations in subscriber growth and technological costs. Overall, the findings demonstrate that MX Play represents a strategically sound, operationally scalable, and financially viable digital platform within the Mexican sports OTT ecosystem.
